On August 13, 2025, a Department Meeting was held at the Ministry of Mines and Energy in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The meeting was attended by Professors Kang and Kim. On the Cambodian side, officials from the Ministry of Mines and Energy participated, including GETPPP alumni Mr. Math Rofat, Mr. Koet Muny phakdey, Mr. Ngin Yav, and Ms. Nou Sreyleak. That reaffirmed the human-capital linkages built through the GETPPP.<o:p></o:p>
![]() The central agenda of the meeting was Cambodia’s electric vehicle (EV) development. The current status of EV development, recent policy implementation, market growth, and infrastructure deployment were shared, and it was emphasized that concrete solutions are needed to address the major challenges facing Cambodia’s EV industry. <o:p></o:p>
Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on practical policy measures, including △expanding government incentives, △establishing financing programs for vehicle purchases, and △accelerating the rollout of charging networks. <o:p></o:p> <o:p></o:p>
Professors Kang and Kim shared Korea’s experience in EV adoption and infrastructure building, emphasizing that Korea’s policy lessons could make concrete contributions to Cambodia’s EV strategy and energy transition roadmap. <o:p></o:p> They underlined that Korea’s expertise could provide tangible support for Cambodia’s sustainable energy transition.<o:p></o:p>
Earlier that morning, the alumna Ms. Nou Sreyleak and the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia held a meeting. The discussion focused on how the GETPPP alumni network could be strengthened as a platform for career growth, mentoring, and continuous exchange between Korea and Cambodia.<o:p></o:p> <o:p></o:p>
The day before (August 12), an Alumni Meeting was convened with four graduates of the program. They shared their achievements after graduation and exchanged updates on Cambodia’s broader social development.<o:p></o:p>
In preparation for the following day’s Department Meeting, professors also met with alumni and their colleagues to discuss Cambodia’s key energy institutions and policies. The talks covered the Cambodia’s energy mix, fossil fuel reduction efforts, and ongoing energy transition initiatives. <o:p></o:p> Challenges such as grid reliability and infrastructure gaps were also addressed, along with opportunities for Korean businesses to enter the Cambodian energy sector.<o:p></o:p>
These Department&Alumni Meetings functioned as more than simple exchanges; they served as substantive policy dialogues. The participation of alumni demonstrated their role as bridges between the governments and academia of both countries, reaffirming KU-GETPPP’s role as a platform for the development of Korea and Cambodia. |
